Charlie’s Reading Challenge Visits St. Mary School in Muncie
February 08, 2017 | General
MUNCIE, Ind. – After a positive pilot program in the fall, Charlie's Reading Challenge has kicked into high gear in 2017. One of the participating schools, St. Mary School in Muncie, recently received a special visit from Charlie Cardinal, student-athletes and coaches to officially commence the program for their students.
"The students and teachers at St. Mary are very excited to be doing Charlie's Reading Challenge," second grade teacher and Ball State alumna, Olivia Edwards said. "They loved when Charlie, the Ball State student-athletes and coaches visited our school to get us even more excited about completing the challenge!"
Women's golfers Kayla Adamson, Allison Lindley and Manon Tounalom visited with young readers, as did softball players Amanda Arnett and Kennedy Wynn. Football players Malik Dunner and Riley Miller joined the visit to chat football and reading, too.
Softball head coach Megan Ciolli Bartlett, women's golf head coach Katherine Mowat and men's golf graduate assistant coach Tyler Ostrom also provided their insight.
Future school visits are scheduled throughout East Central Indiana in February as nearly 25 schools are enrolled. Students are tasked with reading four books in one month and are rewarded with complimentary tickets to a Ball State men's or women's basketball game.
