Swimming and Diving Falls to Notre Dame in Last Home Meet of the Season

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed against Notre Dame Saturday afternoon, rounding out home action. Both teams fell short to the Fighting Irish, women 128-108 and men 148.5-82.5.
Prior to the meet the 12 Ball State swimming and diving seniors were honored in a special ceremony. The men's team recognized Tanner Barton, Jacob Eckert, Austin Green, JD Middleton, Mitch Prather and Bradley Ridge. The women's team honored Jessica Extine, Katie Horn, Allie Kolz, Courtney Mudd, Brittany Penn and Kimberly Scott.
The Cardinals started off the day with a second place finish in the women's 200 medley relay, featuring senior Jessica Extine as the anchor. Extine was joined by freshman Anne Vormohr, junior Amanda Kedzierski and junior Andrea Richter for a final time of 1:45.29.
Extine also placed second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.99.
On the diving board, senior Brittany Penn earned a score of 251.33 in the 1-meter dive. Freshman Rachel Smallwood earned first place in the 1-meter with a score of 271.80. Freshman Rachel Bertram made the NCAA zone cute with her score of 266.33 on the 1-meter. In the 3-meter, Smallwood earned 269.85, Bertram scored 264.38 and Penn had a final score of 257.55.
Vormonhr had a first place finish for the women in the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.77. Kedzierski also had a first place finish after touching the wall at 1:05.59 in the 100 breaststroke.
The men's squad took third in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:34.87. Seniors Tanner Barton and Austin Green teamed up with sophomore Luke Nondorf and freshman Ben Andrew for the third place finish.
Green had a second place individual finish in the 50 freestyle after touching the wall at 21.34. Barton also had a second place individual finish with a time of 51.00 in the 100 butterfly.
Sophomore Cullen Tyler had the only first place finish for the men with a time of 58.78 in the 100 breaststroke.
The Ball State women's swimming and diving team will be in action again at the MAC Championship meet Feb. 22-25.
The Ball State men's swimming and diving team will return to action as they travel to Miami Saturday, Feb. 11. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m.
