Lucas Andersen Earns ITA National Singles Ranking
February 10, 2017 | Men's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. - Senior Lucas Andersen was ranked 122nd nationally for singles play in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Oracle/ITA Division I Men's Collegiate tennis rankings, which was released Wednesday.
Â
This is a great accomplishment for Lucas," Ball State head men's tennis coach Bill Richards said.  "To be among the top 125 players in Division I college tennis is difficult to achieve. When you consider there are somewhere around 3,000 division 1 players you can see the significance."
Â
Andersen has proven to be one of the top singles players to beat already this season. Â His spring play has already been highlighted by two victories on the top court over Big Ten opponents, No. 49 Gergely Madras of Purdue and Raheel Manji of Indiana.
Â
Andersen earned Mid-American Conference Singles Player of the Week after going 2-1 in his opening weekend. Â That weekend Andersen almost upset No. 27 Josh Hagar but lost in three sets he then rebounded with a win over Purdue's Madras on Saturday and finished the weekend off with a victory over Freddie O'Brien of Eastern Illinois.
