Lucas Andersen Earns ITA National Singles Ranking
February 10, 2017 | Men's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. - Senior Lucas Andersen was ranked 122nd nationally for singles play in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Oracle/ITA Division I Men's Collegiate tennis rankings, which was released Wednesday.
This is a great accomplishment for Lucas," Ball State head men's tennis coach Bill Richards said. "To be among the top 125 players in Division I college tennis is difficult to achieve. When you consider there are somewhere around 3,000 division 1 players you can see the significance."
Andersen has proven to be one of the top singles players to beat already this season. His spring play has already been highlighted by two victories on the top court over Big Ten opponents, No. 49 Gergely Madras of Purdue and Raheel Manji of Indiana.
Andersen earned Mid-American Conference Singles Player of the Week after going 2-1 in his opening weekend. That weekend Andersen almost upset No. 27 Josh Hagar but lost in three sets he then rebounded with a win over Purdue's Madras on Saturday and finished the weekend off with a victory over Freddie O'Brien of Eastern Illinois.
