Cardinals add golfers from Indiana, Illinois and Ontario
MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State women's golf team signed three high school standouts to national letters of intent this week.
The Cardinals will welcome Dylann Armstrong (North Gower, Ontario/South Carleton HS), Morgan Lewis (Fishers, Ind./Fishers HS) and Hadley Moritz (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South HS) to their roster next season.
"Dylann, Hadley and Morgan are strong students, talented athletes and fierce competitors," Ball State coach Katherine Mowat said. "They are passionate about Ball State and share the vision for the future success of our women's golf program. All three have the ability to be top competitors in the Mid-American Conference."
Dylann Armstrong
Armstrong owns top-15 provincial rankings in both Quebec and Ontario and is a two-year member of Golf Ontario-Team Ottawa. Also a member of Team Canada East, she owns five tournament wins and two-runner-up finishes in 2017. Among her wins are the Ottawa City & District Championship and the Kevin Haime Junior Masters.
Armstrong finished second at the Ontario Juvenile Championship this year and placed in the top 20 at both the Quebec and Ontario Junior championships. In addition to her golf exploits, she played high school volleyball and flag football and earned a karate black belt. She is also an honor roll member.
"Dylann is an athletic, left-handed golfer who had the opportunity to compete with two provinces throughout her junior career," Mowat said. "She has the ability to go low and has proven she can compete with some of the best junior golfers in Canada."
Morgan Lewis
Lewis was a two-time all-state and three-time all-conference selection at Fishers, where she set the school records for 9- and 18-hole scores. She led the Tigers to the state finals three times and finished sixth individually as a senior this fall. As a sophomore, she recorded the first hole-in-one in state finals history.
Lewis won the regional championship as a senior with a career-best round of 66 and was a three-time sectional runner-up during her career. In junior golf, she won the Round Barn Invitational and Southern Junior Masters last summer. She also placed in the top 5 at the IWGA State Amateur Championship.
"Morgan led a successful high school team and has been a top competitor at the state level during her career," Mowat said. "She is an enthusiastic team player who will thrive as a Cardinal."
Hadley Moritz
Moritz was a three-time all-conference selection at Wheaton Warrenville South. She competed at the IHSA state finals three times, helping the Tigers to a state championship as a junior with a record-setting team score. A two-time individual runner-up in the regional tournament, Moritz placed 14th individually at the state finals as a junior. She managed a career-best 76.3 stroke average as a senior this fall.
Moritz owns multiple junior tour wins, including a victory at the 2016 MAJGT DuPage County Classic in 2016. She is an honor roll student and a member of her school's Athletic Leadership Council. She began her career at Noblesville High School in Indiana.
"Hadley is a long ball hitter with experience competing in nationally ranked tournaments," Mowat said. "She is focused and driven and will be ready to make an immediate impact."
