Three Things to Know:
1. This is the first meeting between the two teams at Scheumann Stadium since 2011. The Cardinals won that game in exciting fashion, 28-25. Ball State has won three straight in the series against Buffalo and is 4-0 all-time against the Bulls at Scheumann Stadium. Last year at Buffalo, junior RB James Gilbert piled up 264 rushing yards and two scores in the 31-21 win. Gilbert's rushing total was the second highest ever by a Cardinal.
2. Injuries have devastated Ball State's offense this season. No player on the offensive side of the ball has started all 10 games. Only four of the starters from the season opener at Illinois on Sept. 2 are not injured.
3. Through 10 games, Ball State has stopped eight of 11 fourth down conversion attempts by the opposition, which includes a stop last week at Northern Illinois. Last year, the Cardinals stopped 13 of 17 fourth down attempts. Ball State currently ranks eighth nationally and second in the MAC in fourth down conversion defense (27.3 percent).
By the Numbers:
1 – DE Anthony Winbush needs one more sack to equal the Ball State career record of 25 held by defensive line coach Keith McKenzie.
3 – Freshman Drew Plitt has thrown three touchdown passes over the last two weeks since stepping in as quarterback.
12 – Number of true freshmen who have logged at least one start for the Cardinals this fall.
