Men's Tennis Finishes First Day At ITA Regionals

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Ball State men's tennis team competed at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Ohio Valley Regionals Thursday afternoon hosted by the University Tennessee.
Five Cardinals advanced past the first round of singles. Jan Jirus defeated his opponent Jorge Agudo from Northern Kentucky in a three-set thriller, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5. Thibault De Negri, Nemanja Guzina, Chris Adams and Conner Andersen all earned straight set victories over their respective opponents. De Negri beat Tennessee Tech's Gonzalo Garcia, 6-2, 6-3 while teammate Nemanja Guzina registered a 6-3, 6-3 win versus Memphis' Matt Story.Â
Adams and Andersen rounded out the singles round victories for Ball State. Adams won a 6-2, 6-1 match over host Tennessee's Ryan Smith while Andersen beat NKU's Felipe Hidalgo, 6-1, 7-5.
The Cardinals had one doubles team advance past the first round. Andersen and Marko Guzina will play Belmont's Vinceint Sterkens and Hendrik Inno.Â
