Women’s Swimming and Diving Falls Short to Miami

OXFORD, Ohio – The Ball State women's swimming and diving team came up short to Miami Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals fell with a final score of 221-78.
Freshman Anne Vormohr, junior Amanda Kedzierski, junior Andrea Richter and freshman Peighton Gilbert teamed up to kick the meet off with a second place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:46.41).
In the 100 backstroke, Vormohr and Richter both earned points for the Cardinals. Vormohr finished fourth with a time of 58.73, earning two points. Richter placed fifth and earned the team one point with a time of 59.42.
Kedzierski's time of 1:04.62 in the 100 breaststroke earned her a fourth place finish.
Senior Katie Horn earned a first place finish in the 200 butterfly after touching the wall at 2:07.03. Freshman Sophie Bader placed fourth in the 200 fly (2:09.61), earning two points. Horn and Bader also placed in the 100 butterfly. Horn placed second with a time of 57.43 while Bader came in fourth with a time of 57.67.
In the 50 freestyle, Peighton Gilbert finished in second with a time of 24.34. Jessica Extine also placed in the 50 free, earning two points. Extine had a time of 24.64 for a fourth place finish.
Freshman Rachel Bertram earned 254.47 in the 1-meter dive, earning fourth place. Freshman Rachel Smallwood placed fifth in the 1-meter dive with a final score of 251.17. Junior Taylor Fiew finished with a score of 244.64. In the 3-meter dive, Bertram finished with a score of 266.33 while Fiew earned 243.90.
The Cardinals finished up the meet with a first place finish in the 400 freestyle. Kedzierski, Gilbert, Vormohr and Extine came together to boast a time of 3:34.85.
The Ball State women's swimming and diving team will be in action again on Saturday, Feb 4 as they take on Notre Dame for Senior Day. The meet will begin at 1 p.m. and will be broadcasted on ESPN3.
