Men’s Swimming and Diving Powers Past In-State Rival Evansville

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State men's swimming and diving team came up big against rival Evansville Saturday afternoon, defeating the Aces with a final score of 153-81.
The Cardinals opened up the day with a 1-2 finish in the 200 medley relay. Freshman Ben Andrew, sophomore Cullen Tyler, senior Bradley Ridge and senior Austin Green teamed up for the first place finish (1:36.78). Right behind them was freshman Chase Jackson, junior Zach Toman, sophomore Alec Tuthill and sophomore Luke Nondorf with a time of 1:37.98.
Junior Isaac Walling had two second place finishes on the day. Walling recorded a time of 10:07.32 in the 1000 freestyle and a time of 4:59.75 in the 500 freestyle.
Junior Banistre Lienhart came out strong for the Cardinals, winning two events. Lienhart's time of 1:45.24 earned him a first place finish in the 200 freestyle. His other first place finish came after he touched the wall at 47.68 in the 100 freestyle.
Freshman Logan Ackley had a good showing for Ball State finishing first in the 200 backstroke (1:54.29) and second in the 200 freestyle (1:45.63).
In the 50 freestyle, Ben Andrew came out on top with a time of 21.70. Sophomore Zach Reichle came in second after touching the wall at 21.90.
Sophomore Luke Nondorf's time of 2:09.81 placed him on top in the 200 breaststroke. Nondorf also came in second in the 200 IM with a time of 1:59.63.
Other top times on the day were Tanner Barton's first place finish in the 200 butterfly (1:56.52), Chase Jackson's second place finish in the 200 backstroke (1:57.24) and Cullen Tyler's second place finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:12.51).
Sophomore Gabe Dean competed in the 3-meter dive, scoring 212.40, and in the 1-meter dive, scoring 211.43. Sophomore Lane Sawyer scored 227.78 in the 1-meter dive.
The Cardinals finished up the day with a 1-2 finish in the 200 freestyle relay. The first place finish consisted of Ben Andrew, Banistre Lienhart, Tanner Barton and Austin Green (1:26.23). Logan Ackley, Bradley Ridge, Adam Pongracz and Zach Reichle came together for the second place finish with a time of 1:28.88.
The Ball State men's swimming and diving team will be in action again on Saturday, Feb. 4 when they take on Notre Dame for Senior Day. The meet will begin at 1 p.m. and will be broadcasted on ESPN3.
