January 11, 2017 | Women's Basketball
MUNCIE, Ind. - Senior guard Carmen Grande was named Hero Sports Mid-Major Guard of the Week for her skills on and off the court.
"Carmen's ability to see the floor is special," Ball State head coach women's basketball coach Brady Sallee said. "When she has the ball in her hands, we all know something good is coming. She is a big reason our offense is as efficient as it is."
Grande is currently fourth in the country in assists (7.6 apg). She dished out a career best 14 assists vs. Central Michigan (1/11/17) and tied the programs best in a single game and its only the third time it is happened. She now shares the single game record and Worthen record 13 assists vs. Chicago State (12/01/16). She is on pace to finish the year with roughly 230 assists. The single season record is 197 by Shala Crook in 2000. She has had a positive assist to turnover ratio in 9 of last 10 games. Grande also has led the Mid-American Conference in assists all season.
"Carmen is a very driven young lady," said Sallee. "She is a hard worker on the floor and in the classroom. I've enjoyed watching her successes and the work she has put into making it all happen. The sky is the limit for her."
