January 20, 2017 | Football
MUNCIE, Ind. – The Mid-American Conference has announced football opponents for the upcoming 2017 season.
Ball State will host Buffalo, Central Michigan, Miami and Toledo, while taking to the road for contests at Akron, Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois and Western Michigan. These are the same eight league opponents the Cardinals faced in 2016.
This will be Buffalo's first visit to Scheumann Stadium since 2011. The Cardinals have won three straight meetings over Buffalo, including a 31-21 triumph at Buffalo in October. Ball State and Miami will be playing for the inaugural 'Red Bird Rivalry' trophy. The two teams played a thriller to conclude the 2016 season with Miami hanging on for a 21-20 victory.
The Cardinals have enjoyed their recent trips to Eastern Michigan, winning five in a row in Ypsilanti dating back to 2005.
Dates for the 2017 league schedule will be released at a later date.
Ball State opens its 2017 schedule with four consecutive non-conference games. The Cardinals kick off the season on Sept. 2 at Big Ten foe Illinois before hosting UAB and Tennessee Tech in back-to-back weekends on Sept. 9 and Sept. 16. Ball State winds down its non-conference slate on Sept. 23 at two-time defending Conference USA champion Western Kentucky.
