Men’s Tennis Advances Four To Finals of Purdue Invite

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team continued its strong singles play when it advanced four Cardinals to the championship match of their respective flights at the Purdue Fall Invitational.
Lucas Andersen advanced to the Flight A finals after defeating Avi Ben Shabat of Butler. L. Andersen took a first set tiebreaker from Shabat by a score of 7-6 (5) he then won the second set 6-4. L. Andersen will take on host Purdue's Athell Bennett in the finals Sunday.
Nemanja Guzina also remained undefeated in his Flight B bracket after registering a straight set victory, 6-1,6-3, against Toledo's Vince Anzalone. He faces Southern Illinois' Piotr Baranski in Sunday's final.
Two other Cardinals moved on to the championship round in their respective flights. Jan Jirus was victorious over Toledo's Serjen Olmedo, 6-4, 7-5 in Flight C and teammate Conner Andersen earned a three set thriller (6-4, 5-7, 6-2) over Southern Illinois' Denis Davydov in the Flight D bracket.
Tom Carney and Lucas Wiese were crowned Flight C doubles champions after defeating IUPUI's Jac Newis and Mikel Saavedra by a 6-2 decision.
The Ball State men's tennis team will close play Sunday at the Purdue Fall Invitational when L. Andersen, N. Guzina, Jirus and C. Andersen play in their championship matches beginning at 9 a.m.
