Game Day Central: Cardinals Conclude Non-Conference Action at FAU
September 22, 2016 | Football
MUNCIE, Ind. – For the second time this month, the Ball State football team is headed down south for a game, this time to the Sunshine State on Saturday to take on Florida Atlantic. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
Saturday's game will be broadcast digitally on FAUSports.tv (premium) while radio coverage will be on Ball State's flagship station, WLBC 104.1 FM.
This is the first-ever meeting between the two teams. This is also the first time Ball State has faced a current member of Conference USA since squaring off against North Texas in 2013.
Keep an eye on RBs Darian Green and James Gilbert, as both closing in on 1,000 career rushing yards. Green needs 85 more yards while Gilbert is 111 yards shy. The duo has combined for 418 rushing yards this year.
Defensively, the Cardinals have been putting consistent pressure on the opposing quarterback in each of the first three games. Ball State has recorded 14 sacks through its first three games, including eight last week in the win over Eastern Kentucky. The eight sacks were the most in a single game for Ball State in at least 10 years. The Cardinals totaled 17 sacks during the entire 2015 season. Junior DE Anthony Winbush has notched two sacks in back-to-back games. He currently ranks eighth nationally with 4.0 sacks this season.
Florida Atlantic is coming off back-to-back challenging road tests at Miami (Fla.) and Kansas State. RB Gregory Howell has four touchdowns in three games, including FAU's lone score at Kansas State one week ago. The Owls are scheduled to return the trip to Muncie in 2019.
