Women?s S&D Announces Team Awards, Captains For 2016-17

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State women's swimming & diving team brought a close to the 2015-16 season with its annual year-end team banquet at which it recognized several student-athletes for their contributions and announced team captains for the upcoming season.
The program kicked off with the recognition of out-going senior captains Sydney Harris and Madie Zirzow. Harris concluded her career with a 14th-place finish in the 100 breaststroke at the MAC Championships with a time of 1:04.83. Zirzow finished her career as a three-time NCAA Zone Diving qualifier, and ranked second in program history on the 1M (289.95) board and fifth on the 3M (289.05) board.
STUDENT ATHLETE AWARD:

STUDENT ATHLETE AWARD:
Sophomore Hannah Cressman earned the program's Student Athlete Award after posting perfect 4.0 grade-point averages in the fall and spring semesters. Cressman finished the season as Ball State's third-best 200 fly swimmer with a time of 2:07.86. She also clocked a season-best 200 free time of 1:56.85 at the MAC Championships, which was the fourth-best time for a Ball State swimmer in 2015-16. She also ranked among the team leaders in the 500 free (5:19.05) and 1000 free (10:59.22).

Mikayla Dostall was named the program's 2015-16 Newcomer of the Year after leading the team with a 200 back time of 2:07.09 set at the MAC Championships. She was also Ball State's second-best swimmer in the 100 back (57.68) and was a member of the eighth-place 200 medley relay which clocked in at 1:42.55 at the MAC Championships.
STRENGTH & CONDITIONING AWARD:

Junior Jessica Extine earned the Swimming Strength & Conditioning Award for her work in the weight room which allowed her to excel in the sprint freestyle races. She clocked Ball State season-best times in both the 50 free (23.62) and 100 free (51.57) at the MAC Championships. She also clocked the team's second-best 100 fly (56.57) of the season at the MAC Championships.
Freshman Courtney McKeen earned the Diving Strength & Conditioning Award for her work in the weight room which helped her earn season-best marks of 238.20 on the 1M board and 234.30 on the 3M board.

Sophomore Traci Muszalski was presented with the Cathy Somenzi Memorial Scholarship after leading the Cardinals in three events on the year. She was the team's fastest swimmer in the 500 free (5:02.05), 200 fly (2:02.01) and 400 IM (4:24.37), with all three marks coming at the MAC Championships. Her efforts at the MAC Championships earned her a sixth-place finish in the 400 IM and a 10th-place showing in the 200 fly.

Junior Courtney Mudd was presented with the David and Sandy Spade Family Scholarship after leading the Cardinals in a pair of events. She was the team's fastest swimmer in the 200 IM (2:07.52) and 100 back (57.18), with both times coming at the MAC Championships. She also ranked second on the squad in the 400 IM (4:31.33).

Courtney Mudd and Kimberly Scott were named the senior team captains for the 2016-17 seasons. Scott was Ball State's second-best swimmer on the year in the 200 IM (2:07.73) behind Mudd, and also ranked third on the team in the 1000 free (10:57.03) and 400 IM (4:31.72).
