No. 13 Lewis Edges No. 8 Ball State On The Road

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The No. 8 Ball State (20-7, 12-3 MIVA) men's volleyball team faced No. 13 Lewis (16-12, 9-6 MIVA) Friday evening in Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association play, and fell in a swift 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-13) sweep.
For the third consecutive match, junior Brendan Surane led the Cardinals offense with 10 kills. The MIVA Offensive Player of the Week also tacked on a team-high of four total blocks and one ace on the night including six kills and two solo blocks in the opening set.
Of the four Ball State service aces, Matt Walsh, Connor Gross and Marcin Niemczewski met Surane with downing an ace on the Flyers. Walsh also tallied one block assist and three kills, while Niemczewski marked three aces in addition to Gross' three assists.
Edgardo Cartagena stood out by posting four kills on the night, as well as one solo block, leading to a .909 reception percentage on 20 balls faced.
The Flyers were able edge Ball State in attack percentage (.299-.087), kills (39-25) and aces (7-4), in addition to narrowly holding the advantage in total team blocks (7.5-7.0).
The Cardinals will round out the regular season tomorrow evening when it takes on No. 12 Loyola on the road. The MIVA conference matchup is set for a 7 p.m. central time first serve.
