Women's Tennis Remains Perfect In MAC Action

YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Ball State women's tennis team remained undefeated in Mid-American Conference action after its 5-2 defeat at Eastern Michigan Sunday afternoon at the Chippewa Club.
With the win, the Cardinals improve their overall record to 17-2. The 17 wins ties the programs all-time record for most wins in a season. Ball State also improved to 4-0 in league action while extended its win streak to 14. Eastern Michigan falls to 3-13 for the year and 0-3 in conference play.
Carmen Blanco alongside her No. 3 doubles partner Bethany Moore got the Cardinals rolling with their 6-1 defeat over Eastern Michigan's Renu Sharma and Alejandra Barcelo. Ball State then clinched the doubles point after Peyton Gollhofer and Audrey Berger beat Ani Gogvadze and Marie Mayerova by a score of 6-4 on court two.
In singles action, Blanco was quick off the court at the No. 2 position after posting a straight set, 6-2, 6-1, victory over the Eagles' Andrea Martinovska. Julia Sbireca then downed the Eastern Michigan's Barcelo, 6-3, 6-4, on court six to give the Cardinals a 3-0 advantage.
The Eagles made it a 3-1 match after Anna Veleva beat Ball State's Isabelle Dohanics, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5 singles. Berger would clinch the match for the Cardinals after taking down Mayerova at No. 4 singles in a three set thriller.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues Mid-American Conference action on the road Friday at Akron with a 1 p.m. first serve.
