Game Notes
Opening Pitch: Ball State is currently sitting in first place in the MAC West and is tied for first overall in the MAC with a 9-3 conference record. The Cardinals hold a two-game lead over Northern Illinois in the MAC West and are tied with Kent State and Miami overall.
Ball State is first in nearly every offensive category in league games. The Cardinals rank first in batting average, hits, runs, doubles, triples and home runs. SS Alex Maloney (.457), 1B Caleb Stayton (.429), and RF Alex Call (.417) are ranked in the top three in the MAC in batting average and runs scored against league foes.
Series History: Bowling Green leads the all-time series by a record of 59-52-2. Ball State swept the series against the Falcons last year and has won six straight overall in the series.
RHP Zach Plesac had a monster outing in the first match-up between the Falcons and Cardinals last year. Plesac tossed a complete game while only allowing three hits and striking out nine batters in the 7-0 victory.
Home, Sweet Home: Ball State is 10-2 and averages more than 10 runs per game at Ball Diamond. Four starters have batting averages better than .400, while RHP Brendan Burns is 3-0 with a 1.12 ERA at home.
MAC West Pitcher of the Week: RHP BJ Butler became the ninth Cardinal to earn MAC West Player or Pitcher of the Week honors this past Monday. Butler ranks second in the MAC with seven saves this season.
Butler has not allowed a run in his last seven appearances. He picked up two MAC wins last weekend at Central Michigan, pitching the final three innings on Saturday and the last two frames on Sunday.
