Women's Tennis Suffers 4-3 Loss At Buffalo

BUFFALO, NY - The Ball State women's tennis team suffered a close 4-3 road loss at Buffalo Sunday afternoon despite winning the doubles point. With the loss, the Cardinals dropped to 18-3 overall and 5-1 in Mid-American Conference action while the Bulls improved to 11-6 for the year and 3-2 in league action.
The Cardinals had won 14 straight prior to today's match. Ball State took the doubles point from Buffalo after earning wins on courts two and three. The Cardinals fell behind early to the Bulls after suffering a 6-2 loss on the top court. Audrey Berger alongside teammate Peyton Gollhofer took down Laura Holterbosch and Christine Haraldson at the No. 2 position to even the score. Carmen Blanco paired up with Bethany Moore, to clinch the point after their 7-6 (2) defeat over Chantal Martinez and Mercedes Rubio at the No. 3 slot.
In singles action, Buffalo knotted the match 1-1 after Laura Holterbosch beat Audrey Berger 7-5, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. Julia Sbircea then put Ball State up 2-1 after a straight set victory over Christine Haraldson on court six. But Buffalo came back to win the next two matches at the No. 3 and No. 1 positions to go up 3-2 over the Cardinals. Peyton Gollhofer earned a clutch three set thriller at No. 2 singles to make it a 3-3 match with one competition remaining on the court.
With the match tied, the Bulls Sanjana Sudhir won in three sets over Isabelle Dohanics to take the win from Ball State on court five.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues Mid-American Conference action when it plays at Bowling Green Sunday at 1 p.m.
