March 09, 2016 | Women's Swimming and Diving
MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State women's swimming and diving program senior Madie Zirzow and junior Quinn Bixler have qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving C Championships taking place in West Lafayette, Ind. this weekend.
Zirzow qualified for the Zone meet early on in the season when she earned a score of 289.95 on the one-meter at Miami. The mark placed her second overall in the Ball State record book, and earned her a second place finish against the RedHawks. This is the Fort Wayne, Ind. native's third time participating in NCAA Diving Zones, after earning a qualifying score of 276.75 in one-meter competition her freshman year and 269.85 in one-meter action her junior year.
Bixler earned her qualifying score at the 12th annual Doug Coers Co-Ed Invitational by marking scores of 270.60 and 282.98 in the one- and three-meter events, respectively. Both scores qualified Bixler to participate in her first NCAA Diving Zones competition, were lifetime best scores, and place her eighth all-time in the Ball State record books.
With both Zirzow and Bixler's participation, it is the second consecutive season in which Ball State has had two women qualify for NCAA Zones.
DiveMeets.com will be running live results throughout the meet, with prelim action beginning at 1 p.m. and finals to follow directly after. Competition begins Thursday with the one-meter diving event, followed by three-meter diving taking place Friday afternoon.
There will be 12 automatic berths to the NCAA Championships available in the one-meter, along with seven entries in the three-meter from Zone C this year. In order to advance from prelims to finals, divers must finish in the top-18.
