CORVALLIS, Ore.-- The Ball State gymnastics team suffered a third place loss of 196.800-193.300-192.425 against Oregon State and Seattle Pacific late Friday.
"It was a disappointing meet tonight," head coach Joanna Saleem said. "We had an injury and had to adapt the first two rotations. It's hard to try and regain what's lost when we started off the meet behind. It becomes difficult to catch up."
Senior, Denasiha Christian suffered an injury during vault warm-up that forced her to sit out from the start of the competition.
The team managed a 48.800 on vault, 48.650 on bars, 47.600 on beam, and in conclusion a 47.375 on floor.
The Cardinals started the meet on beam. Kayla Beckler performed a solid routine scoring a 9.775, placing eighth. Jordyn Penny scored a 9.675 and Baylee Bell scored a 9.575, respectively.
On floor Erin Patchey stood sixth with a score of 9.775. Clare Collins followed with a score of 9.725.
The team picked up momentum and moved onto vault. Erin Patchey scored a 9.800 earning her third place. Jordyn Penny and Sarah Ebeyer tied for fifth with scores of 9.775.
The Cardinals finished the meet strong on bars where freshman, Madison Howell placed sixth with a score of 9.775. Jordyn Penny and Kayla Beckler followed in seventh and eighth with scores of 9.750 and 9.725.
"I encourage the team to not let this competition affect our practice going into another meet on the road," Saleem said. "I want these ladies to maintain their excitement and momentum looking forward to the Mid-American Conference."
The team continues on the road to finish its regular season against NC State Saturday, Mar. 12 at 7 p.m.
