Merder Named To The Academic All-MAC Team

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Shelby Merder of the Ball State women's basketball team has been named to the 2016 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team, as voted by faculty athletic representatives at MAC institutions.
Merder helped the Cardinals to a 22-10 overall record and a 13-5 MAC mark, earning them their fourth straight trip to the MAC Tournament in Cleveland and to the Women's National Invitation Tournament, where they upset Big Ten foe Iowa, 77-72, in the first round.
She registered a career best performance this season, scoring 15 points in the Cardinals MAC opener against Toledo (Jan. 2) after going 3-of-6 from 3-point range. Merder led the team this season in three point percentage 24-of-70 (.343) and saw action in all of the Cardinals' 32 games this year. She has also been part of three teams that played in post season WNIT's for Ball State. Last season, Merder helped the Cardinals to their first MAC West Division title since 2009.
Merder, will be graduating a year early from the honors college with a degree in Speech-Language Pathology. She boasts a 3.9 GPA on Ball State's 4.0 scale.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
