Game Notes
Opening Pitch: Ball State hosts Ohio in a three-game series this weekend. The two teams met last year in the MAC Tournament championship game.
This series features a match-up of two of the top teams statistically in the MAC. Ohio ranks second in the league in batting average (.287) with Ball State right behind (.281). In terms of ERA, Ball State ranks second (3.92) and Ohio sits third (4.37).
Ball State went 8-7 (.533) in home league games last year.
Series History: This is the first time since 2013 these two teams have met for a league series. Ohio won the only meeting between the two teams last year, a 6-2 win in the MAC championship game.
Ohio holds the lead in the all-time series, 59-44. The home team has won two of three games in each of the last three series.
Eppers and Call are Hot: CF Matt Eppers and RF Alex Call enter the weekend riding 10-game hitting streaks. Over the last 10 games, Eppers is batting .472 (17-of-36) while Call is almost as good at .450 (18-of-40).
The two players have combined to score 16 times, tally 15 RBIs, hit 12 doubles and steal four bases during this stretch.
Don't Forget About Rindfleisch: C Jarett Rindfleisch has been carrying a hot bat as well. He has multiple hits in seven of his last nine games. The catcher notched the game-winning hit in the 3-2 win at Valparaiso on Tuesday, a seventh inning RBI single. Over the last nine games, Rindfleisch is batting .444 with three home runs and nine RBIs.
Switch in Starting Rotation: RHP Zach Plesac is expected to start Friday's game. LHP Kevin Marnon had been used in that role the previous four weeks.
Also, RHP Brendan Burns has been reinserted to the rotation. He did not start last weekend at Miami.
