Women's Tennis Defeats NIU 5-2 In MAC Play Sunday

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team (15-2, 2-0 MAC) remained undefeated in the Mid-American Conference after its 5-2 victory over Northern Illinois (6-8, 1-1 MAC) Sunday afternoon at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center. With the win, the Cardinals have extended their win streak to 12.
Ball State grabbed the early momentum after taking the doubles point from its opponent for the fifth straight match. Peyton Gollhofer and Audrey Berger won 6-3 at three doubles and were followed by the duo of Carmen Blanco and Bethany Moore in second doubles, 6-2, the twosome clinched the point over Northern Illinois' Michelle Erasmus and Abilgail Dekkinga.
The Cardinals took down the Huskies in straight sets on courts three, four, five and two. Berger did not give up a game to Dekkinga in her first set at No. 3 singles winning the match, 6-0, 6-1. Isabelle Dohanics clinched the match point for Ball State with her 6-2, 6-1 victory over Evelyn Youel at the No. 5 position. Toni Ormond and Blanco also earned wins today on their respective courts.
The Ball State women's tennis team remains at home in Mid-American Conference action when it hosts the 2015 MAC Tournament Champions Miami, Friday at 1 p.m. at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center, weather permitting.
