Game Notes
Opening Pitch: Conference action begins this weekend as Ball State travels to Miami. The Cardinals won the 2014 MAC regular season title and advanced to both the 2013 and 2015 MAC Tournament championship games.
Since head coach Rich Maloney took over the program in 2013, the Cardinals are 51-29 (.638) in league regular season games.
Series History: This is the first time since 2013 these two teams have met for a league series. Ball State has won the last two meetings, a 2015 non-conference game (4-0) in March and a 2013 MAC Tournament game (13-7).
Miami holds the lead in the all-time series, 72-62. However, Ball State has won 10 of the last 14 meetings dating back to 2010.
Stayton Continues to Produce: 1B Caleb Stayton enters this weekend riding a 13-game hitting streak. During this stretch, Stayton is hitting .388 (19-of-49) with 15 RBIs. Stayton had notched an RBI in nine of his last 10 games. His 27 RBIs are almost twice as many as anyone else on the roster.
Call on a Roll: RF Alex Call has notched two hits in six straight games. In that stretch, he has raised his batting average 30 points to a team-high .388. He leads the team in runs scored (20), hits (33), doubles (10) and slugging percentage (.624).
Standout Bullpen: In Ball State's 9-8 win over Purdue on Tuesday, the Cardinals' bullpen scattered four hits over the final seven innings and only allowed one run. RHP Zach Plesac was especially effective, going 3.0 innings, striking out three and only giving up a single.
