March 18, 2016 | Women's Tennis
DAYTON, Ohio - The Ball State women's tennis team (13-2) extended its win streak to 10, after tallying a 6-1 dominating win at Wright State (11-3) Friday afternoon.
The Cardinals cruised past the doubles matches, claiming a commanding 6-1 victory from the No. 3 doubles tandem of Carmen Blanco and Bethany Moore. Blanco and Moore continue to excel on the court, as they were last weeks' Mid-American Conference Doubles Team of the Week. At No. 2 doubles, the Ball State pair of Julia Sbircea and Toni Ormond, clinched the doubles point for the Cardinals after their 6-3 defeat over Linsey Verstrepen and Karolina Haller. Peyton Gollhofer and Audrey Berger went unfinished but the twosome had a 5-2 edge over Tori Turner and Taylor Culbertson.
Ball State started strong in singles play as Sbircea and Gollhofer finished their matches rather quickly, Sbircea only gave up one game in both of her sets. Gollhofer, the MAC Singles Player of the week, won 6-2, 6-2 on court one and has improved to 10-2 in dual action.
With the Cardinals up 3-0, Ormond would soon clinch the fourth and final point for Ball State after her, 6-4, 6-1, victory over Vanessa Madrigal on court four. Blanco and Berger would also record singles wins for the Cardinals today.
The Ball State women's tennis team opens Mid-American Conference action at home Friday when it hosts Western Michigan at 12 p.m. in the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center, weather permitting.
