Women's Tennis Sweeps Norfolk State

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Ball State women's tennis team extended its win streak to eight with a 7-0 sweep over Norfolk State Thursday afternoon. With the win, the Cardinals improved to 11-2 overall, while Norfolk State dropped to 2-6.
Ball State's Toni Ormond paired up with Julia Sbircea for a 6-1 defeat over Norfolk State's Dajana Cvjetkovic and Ana Popovic at No. 1 doubles. The Cardinals continued their strong start after the No. 3 doubles tandem of Carmen Blanco and Bethany Moore clinched the point with their 6-2 victory over the Spartans' Liza Gordeeva and Marta Gomar. Peyton Gollhofer and Audrey Berger swept the doubles competition with a 6-5 (7-4) win on court two.
In singles action, the Cardinals took all six matches from the Spartans. Blanco did not give up a game to Marta Gomar on court two, winning the match 6-0, 6-0. Sbircea increased the Cardinals' lead to 3-0 with her 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 5 singles over Popovic. The match would then be clinched by Ormond after her straight set win on court four over Andrea Macchiavello.
Isabelle Dohanics, Gollhofer and Berger each earned straight set wins on their respective courts, with Berger remaining undefeated 11-0 in dual action this season.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues its spring break in Orlando, Fla., when it faces James Madison Friday at 2 p.m.
