Track & Field Earns Solid Marks On Final Day of Meyo Invite
February 07, 2016 | Track & Field
NOTRE DAME, Ind. - - Senior Danielle Dahl (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea) turned in the second-best 800m run of her indoor career and helped the 4x400m relay finish with its best indoor time since the 2006 season as the Ball State indoor track & field team closed competition at the two-day Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame at the Loftus Sports Center.
“I am very pleased with our weekend,” first-year head coach Brian Etelman said. “As the season has gone on, we have asked our athletes to respond to higher levels of competition and they continue to deliver. It was great to see Marie Lumpkin regain her early-season form in the weight throw. Regan Lewis has proven to be incredibly reliable as a freshman. Dani Dahl continues to get better and better each weekend. Our 4x400 was outstanding, with the best indoor time since the 2006 season, as Gabby Sims closed with a huge anchor leg to top off the work that Amber, Olivia and Dani did on the front end. We are in a perfect place at this point in the season, and look to continue our positive momentum into the MAC Championship in three weeks.”
Dahl, the only individual to compete on the track for the Cardinals Saturday, turned in the second-best indoor 800m run of her career against another strong field, finishing the race in 2:14.61 which currently stands as the ninth-best time in the Mid-American Conference this season. Dahl's career-best time in the indoor 800m run is 2:13.80 set at the 2014 MAC Indoor Championships.
Dahl would have another strong showing in the 4x400m relay, as she teamed with freshman Amber McGee (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrop), junior Olivia Ashba (Ellettsville, Ind./Edgewood) and sophomore Gabby Sims (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) for a clocking of 3:48.89. McGee led off the relay in 57.2, followed by Ashba (57.1), Dahl (58.3) and Sims (55.9). Saturday's time of 3:48.89 in the 4x400m relay is the fastest for a Ball State indoor 4x400m relay since an effort of 3:42.81 at the Iowa State Classic Feb. 11, 2006.
Senior Michaela Hull (Bloomington, Ind./South) rounded out Ball State's competitors on the final day of the Meyo Invitational, with a throw of 13.22m (43'-4.50”) in the shot put.
The Ball State indoor track & field team heads to Allendale, Mich., next weekend for the Grand Valley State University Big Meet. The two-day event is scheduled to run all day Friday and Saturday.
