
Women's Tennis Earns 6-1 Victory At IUPUI

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team extended its win streak to five after posting a 6-1 defeat at IUPUI Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Cardinals improve their spring record to 8-2 while the Jaguars drop to 3-10 overall.
"We played with a lot of energy today and we were very focused on our game plan and the things we had been working on," Ball State sophomore Carmen Blanco said. "It feels good to finish up with the Win against IUPUI, who's much improved."
The Cardinals took the Jaguars down in order in doubles action to take an early 1-0 edge over IUPUI. Rosalinda Calderon and Carmen Blanco were the first Ball State doubles tandem off the court, after beating Rachel Swartwood and Sara Sherif 6-1 on the top court. Audrey Berger then paired up with Peyton Gollhofer for a 6-0 win against Samantha Mayer and Valeriia Lavrenchuk which clinched the point for the Cardinals. Bethany Moore and Isabelle Dohanics closed out the victories with a 7-6 (5) defeat over Bobbi Modesto and Mariella Pessina.
Ball State took five of the six singles matches from IUPUI. Blanco put the Cardinals up 2-0 after her straight set win over Lavrenchuk at the No. 1 spot. Moore's win over Modesto on court five gave Ball State the 3-0 edge against the Jaguars. Calderon would then clinch the match for Ball State after taking down Brigitte Swartwood 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 6 singles position. Ormond and Dohanics also earned victories over their respective opponents in straight sets.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues spring play when it host Cincinnati March 4 at 5:30 p.m. in the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
