WS&D Kicks off Conference Championships with Season Bests

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Ball State women's swim and dive team is in eighth place with 44 points after Wednesday night's opening relay events at the 2016 Mid-American Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Championships, hosted by Bowling Green.
The week was kicked off with the 200 medley relay, in which freshman Mikayla Dostall, sophomore Amanda Kedzierski, sophomore Andrea Richter and junior Jessica Extine set a new Cardinal season best time of 1:42.55 in the process of placing eighth overall. The previous season best of the Ball State swim team was 1:45.68.
The second and final race of day one competition was the 800 freestyle relay where the Cardinals shattered its season best time despite finishing in eighth place. Freshman Liz Madison, sophomore Traci Muszalski, sophomore Hannah Cressman and freshman Lauren Elston swam a team time of 7:39.66.
Two-time defending MAC champion Akron leads the scoreboard heading into day two of competition with 74 points, while Eastern Michigan and Buffalo trail with 66 and 64 points, respectively.
The Cardinals return to Cooper Natatorium tomorrow morning for preliminary sessions starting at 11 a.m., followed final swims at 7 p.m.
