February 15, 2016 | Women's Basketball
CLEVELAND, Ohio - Ball State women's basketball senior forward Nathalie Fontaine has been named Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week, marking the 12th time Fontaine has earned the honor in her career and the sixth time this season.
Fontaine combined for 57 points during last week's competition after scoring 29 points against Central Michigan Wednesday and then led the Cardinals again with a 28-point performance at Kent State Saturday. Fontaine has now reached the 2,000 career point mark, making her only the second player in program history (Tamara Bowie is first with 2,091 points) to reach that milestone and the 15th player in MAC women's basketball history.
The senior forward had a total of 24 rebounds in two games, after bringing down 14 boards versus the Chippewas and 10 rebounds against the Golden Flashes. She now has 30 double-doubles for her career which includes 13 this season.
Fontaine has now scored in double figures in every game this season for the Cardinals and 109 times total for her career. For the week, Fontaine averaged 28.5 points per game and 12.0 rebounds while shooting 58 percent from the field (21-of-36) and 93 percent from the free throw line (15-of-16). Fontaine needs 92 points to become Ball State women's basketball all-time leading scorer.
The Ball State women's basketball team looks to rebound from its two straight losses last week when it travels to Northern Illinois Wednesday for an 8 p.m. (EST) tipoff in the Convocation Center.
