Lindley Leads Women?s Golf on Day 1 at FGCU

ESTERO, Fla. -- Junior Allison Lindley led the Ball State women's golf team Friday with a 73 (+1) in the first of three rounds at the FGCU Eagle Invitational.
The Cardinals opened the first event of their spring schedule at Stoneybrook Country Club. They posted an 18-hole score of 311 (+23) and find themselves in eighth place out of 15 teams with two more rounds to play.
Mercer leads the tournament with a score of 301 (+13). Toledo (+14) is second, followed by FGCU (+15), Xavier (+17) and Elon (+18).
Lindley was 5 over par through her first eight holes before a strong finish. She played her final 10 holes in 4 under, including five birdies, to shoot 73. She is tied for fifth place, three strokes off the lead.
Aracelly Jimenez of Arkansas State and Payton Schanen of Mercer sit atop the leaderboard with a score of 70 (-2).
In addition to Lindley, Ball State also counted a 77 (+5) from Kelsey Sear, an 80 (+8) from Morgan Nadaline and an 81 (+9) from Sydney Anderson. Sear is tied for 20th.
The Cardinals played better as the round went along to work their up into the middle of the pack. The team carded a score of 6 over par on the front side after starting on the back and playing that half of the course in 17 over.
Ball State will begin the second round of the FGCU Eagle Invitational with an 8:15 a.m. shotgun start Saturday. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
