Cardinal Notes:
• The Ball State women's basketball team will face its second opponent from Indiana when it travels to in-state rival Butler Sunday at 1 p.m. in historic Hinkle Fieldhouse. The Cardinals are looking for their second-straight win and fifth of the season after improving to 4-2 Thursday night with Ball State's 88-53 take down over Chicago State.
• Ball State had its best shooting performance of the season after shooting 59.4 percent from the field and 70 points in the paint for the game, while holding the Cougars to 32.2 percent. The Cardinals also turned up their defense against Chicago State forcing the Cougars to commit 21 turnovers while scoring 26 points off those miscues. Ball State continued to be a strong force on the boards after out-rebounding Chicago State, 43 to 26.
• For the second game this season Ball State had five Cardinals score in double figures. Sophomore guard Desting Washington and senior center Renee Benett led the team with 18 points apiece. Junior forward Moriah Monaco chipped in 16 points, while senior guard Calyn Hosea ended the night with 11 and freshman guard Aliyah Walker had a personal best 10-point performance.
• Butler stands at 2-5 so far this season and has lost four-straight games from Nov. 20 to Dec. 2. The Bulldogs fell to Wisconsin (55-60), Central Florida (59-66), Texas Christian University (47-73) and at home Friday night against South Florida (59-74). Butler has struggled from the floor this season only shooting .386 from the field while Ball State is shooting .493 percent on the year. Defensively Ball State is out-rebounding its opponents 41.8 to 34.3 which is the exact number of rebounds Butler is averaging this season.
