Barnes’ Goal Not Enough to Keep Field Hockey Season Alive

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State field hockey team fell to top-seeded Kent State, 2-1, Friday afternoon in the first round of the Mid-American Conference tournament, ending its 2016 season.
The first goal of the game came from Kent State's Madison Thompson off a deflection in the 15th minute.
Kent State struck again when Alison Harmatz scored her 14th goal of the season in the 30th minute. Harmatz scored from the top of the circle on a pass from Shannon Talbot.
Senior Bryce Barnes scored on a penalty stroke in the 66th minute, but it was not enough to defeat the Golden Flashes.
Senior Lexi Kavanaugh and junior Abbey Main both had one shot on goal.
Senior goalkeeper Jordan Dues had ten saves on the day, finishing the season with 92 saves and a .692 save percentage.
The tournament appearance marked the Cardinals' first trip to MAC since 2011.
The Cardinals wrap up the season with a final record of 8-11, 3-3 in conference action.
