All-Access: Mabon's Road to the Record Book
November 23, 2016 | Football
Senior captain now school's all-time top pass catcher
Nobody plays to be No. 2.  So KeVonn Mabon strove to be No. 1. Â
Tuesday night at Miami Mabon hauled in 11 receptions to give him 244 over his Ball State career.  The number eclipsed the previous Cardinals record of 238, established by Ball State Hall-of-Famer Dante Ridgeway (arguably considered the best receiver in school history) in 2004.  The record also puts Mabon ahead of the likes of Willie Snead, Jordan Williams, Jamill Smith and other top wideouts he both played with and admired in his time in Muncie.
The Mabon story to the top isn't an easy stroll, though. Â The St. Louis native battled setbacks and adversity in his career, missing almost the entire 2013 season after breaking his collarbone at North Texas that September. Â Nicks and bruises here and there accompanied what wound up being almost 3,000 career yards with his 244 grabs. Â Mabon also served as a captain for the Cardinals this fall. Â
Ball State All-Access spoke to Mabon, his coaches and his family to learn more about his journey through the college football ranks. Â For more information on Ball State football fans can follow the team on social media @BallStateFB.
