ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Ball State women's swimming and diving team slid past Grand Valley State Saturday afternoon, 151-149.
To start off the meet, Ball State took first place in the 200 medley relay. The relay consisted of freshman Anne Vormohr, junior Amanda Kedzierski, senior Jessica Extine and junior Andrea Richter. Three members of the relay team went on the finish first in their individual events. Vormohr finished first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.59. Kedzierski also took an individual first place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.74. Extine had a time of 24.84 for a first place finish in the 50 freestyle.
Senior Katie Horn also had first places finishes in the 200 butterfly (2:07.96) and in the 100 butterfly (58.86).
Freshman Rachel Bertram placed first in the 1-meter dive with a score of 264.14. Senior Brittany Penn was right behind her, finishing second in the 1-meter dive with a score of 262.27. Ball State went 1-2-3 in the 3-meter dive, Rachel Smallwood in first (269.24), Bertram in second (262.43) and Penn in third (229.12).
"Grand Valley State is not a team we take lightly," said head coach Kristy Patterson. "They have lots of talent and are a well-coached program. We are excited to get the win, but know that we have more in the tank. We saw improvements from last week, which is nice to have as we wrap up our first semester of dual meets."
The Ball State women's swimming and diving team will return to action in December as they travel to compete in the Miami Invitational in Oxford, Ohio.
