Cardinals add two from Indiana, two from Ohio for next season
MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State women's golf program added four players to its future roster with the opening of the NCAA signing period last week.
The Cardinals signed Holly Anderson (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North), Liz Kim (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman), Emily Knouff (Fort Loramie, Ohio/Fort Loramie) and Reece Malapit (Yorktown, Ind./Yorktown) to national letters of intent.
"This class of four is the largest in my 13 years at Ball State," head coach Katherine Mowat said. "As a class, these young ladies will be a powerful force in our conference. They have exemplified hard work, commitment and passion throughout junior golf and high school, and I know they are each determined to accomplish great things at the Division I level.
"All four of these athletes have earned championships and top finishes on the golf course at the local and state levels. In the classroom, these four young ladies have excelled and have achieved high honors. They will make Ball State proud, and I am thrilled to have them as a part of our program."
Anderson won the IHSAA state championship last month at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel. She was an all-state selection as a senior and an all-conference pick all four years. Anderson helped Columbus North to four sectional championships and three conference crowns during her career. She won her sectional twice and her regional once as an individual. The sister of current Ball State women's golfer Sydney Anderson, Holly was a two-time team MVP and two-time team captain at Columbus North. She was twice named golfer of the year by The Columbus Republic.
Kim was a two-time all-district selection, including first-team as a senior, for Dublin Coffman. She was also named to the all-conference first team twice. Kim was individual medalist of the district tournament as a junior and won four high school invitationals during her career. She led Dublin Coffman to two top-10 team finishes at the Ohio state finals, including a third-place result her sophomore year. An Ohio Capital Conference Scholar Athlete selection, she was also the recipient of the 2013 Ohio High School Athletic Association Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award.
Knouff was an all-state golfer for Fort Loramie and has been rated as high as No. 1 in the Golfweek Midwest rankings. She won nine junior tournaments during her high school years, including victories on the Southern Ohio Junior Golf Association, Golfweek Junior Tour and Hurricane Junior Golf Association. She twice won the Hurricane event at Delaware Country Club in Muncie. Knouff was a two-time Lima Junior Golf Association Player of the Year. She holds two course records, having fired a 65 at Echo Hills Golf Club in Piqua, Ohio, and a 67 at Shelby Oaks Golf Club in Sidney, Ohio.
Malapit placed third at this year's IHSAA championships for her second top-10 finish in three state finals appearances. Her third-place finish was the best ever by a Yorktown girls' golfer. Malapit was named to the all-state team as both a junior and a senior. She was an all-conference and all-county selection all four years. Malapit, who was named The Star Press Athlete of the Year for girls' golf last season, posted a scoring average of 74.87 as a senior. She owns numerous wins on the Indiana Junior Golf Association circuit and was the Junior Golf Tour Player of the Year in 2015.
