Volleyball Rebounds with Saturday win at Western Michigan

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - - Three players connected for double digit kills to help lift the Ball State women's volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-21, 25-23) Mid-American Conference victory at Western Michigan Saturday afternoon.
After being shut down by the tenacious Northern Illinois defense Friday night, sophomore right side Brooklyn Goodsel (Corry, Pa./Corry Area) found her rhythm early against the Broncos (6-13, 1-5 MAC) by striking for six kills in the opening set. She finished the day with a match-high 19 kills and added a team-best 16 digs for her fifth double-double of the season.
Also scoring double-digit kills for the Cardinals (8-12, 4-2 MAC) in Saturday's win were sophomore outside hitter Ellie Dunn (Sugar Grove, Ill./Kaneland) and redshirt junior outside hitter Sabrina Mangapora (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) with 12 and 11, respectively. Overall, the trio accounted for 42 of Ball State's 56 kills in the match.
Mangapora led the Cardinals at the net with three total blocks, including a pair of solo stuffs, and earned four digs. Dunn finished the day with a pair of blocks and six digs.
In the backcourt, Ball State freshman libero Kate Avila (Yorktown, Ind./Yorktown) collected 15 digs to reach double-digit digs for the 18th time in 20 matches this season. She also faced a match-high 30 serves, and successfully passed 29 for a .968 reception percentage.
Freshman setter Amber Seaman (Carmel, Ind./Brebeuf) also finished the match with double figure digs, earning 14 to go along with 41 assists for her team-leading 10th double-double of the season. Seaman also scored six kills and served up one of Ball State's four aces.
The Ball State women's volleyball team returns to Worthen Arena next weekend for matches versus Kent State (Friday) and Ohio (Saturday). Both matches are slated for 7 p.m. first serves, with the Cardinals Saturday match versus the Bobcats also being broadcast live on ESPN3.
