KeVonn Mabon Named Senior CLASS Award Candidate
October 13, 2016 | Football
MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State wide receiver KeVonn Mabon was selected as one of 30 candidates nationwide for the 2016 Senior CLASS Award in the sport of football. Mabon is one of just two players in the Mid-American Conference to find his name on this list.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I FBS senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Mabon, hailing from St. Louis, Missouri, is one of the top wide receivers in the MAC. He ranks third in the league in receptions per game (6.2) and recently became the 10th Cardinal to reach 2,000 career receiving yards. Mabon has twice been named to the All-MAC team (2014, 2015) and is currently on the 2016 Biletnikoff Award Watch List, which honors the nation's outstanding wide receiver.
Mabon earned his Ball State bachelor's degree in criminal justice this past May. He is one of five players on the 2016 Cardinals roster with a collegiate degree.
In the Muncie community, Mabon has joined several other football players in service projects including the Muncie Animal Shelter, Muncie Boys & Girls Club, Second Harvest Food Bank and Muncie Clean & Beautiful.
To determine the final Senior CLASS Award winner, the 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition. Along with the winner, the 10 finalists will be awarded Senior CLASS Award first- or second-team honors.
The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the football bowl season in early January. For more information on the candidates, visit seniorCLASSaward.com.
