January 06, 2016 | Baseball
MUNCIE, Ind. – Todd Linklater, who had served as the Ball State baseball team's pitching coach since 2013, is stepping down to pursue other career opportunities.
“Todd has been an excellent teacher, mentor and role model to our team,” Ball State head coach Rich Maloney said. “He will be a tremendous asset to his brother's financial business. We wish Todd and his family great success in the financial industry.”
Linklater played a significant role in helping the baseball program win 103 games, capture a Mid-American Conference regular season championship and reach two MAC tournament championship games over the previous three seasons. In 2013, Linklater guided Sean Baker to MAC Pitcher of the Year honors after posting a 12-2 record with a 2.18 ERA. That same season, Linklater oversaw the pitching staff improve its team ERA from 5.25 the year before to a league-best 3.68.
Junior Zach Plesac, who was recently named a Louisville Slugger Preseason All-American by Collegiate Baseball, headlines the 2016 Ball State pitching staff. The two-time All-MAC selection went 12-2 with a 2.11 ERA on the way to earning Collegiate Baseball National Freshman Pitcher of the Year accolades in 2014. Last year, Plesac led the Cardinals in wins, games started, innings pitches, strikeouts and ERA.
Ball State's 2016 season opener is slated for Feb. 19 in Arizona against Oregon State.
