Dahl, Stewart and Timmons Pace Track & Field at Kentucky Invite
January 17, 2016 | Track & Field
LEXINGTON, Ky. - - Senior runner Danielle Dahl (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea) placed seventh in the 800m run with a time of 2:16.67 to lead the Ball State indoor track & field team on the second day of competition Saturday at the Kentucky Invitational inside Nutter Field House.
Running against its toughest competition to date this season, including eighth-ranked Kentucky among a field of 22 teams, the Cardinals managed to produce five career-best performances and four top 20 individual finishes at the two-day meet.
In addition to the strong showing from Dahl, freshman sprinter Peyton Stewart (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) continued to run well in the 60m dash, placing 16th overall with a time of 7.66. Stewart also made her collegiate debut in the 200m dash, placing 35th overall with a personal-best time of 25.57.
Stewart was not the only Ball State runner to turn in a career-fast time in the 200m dash, as classmates Amber McGee (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrop) and Jazmin Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/North College Hill) also made there Ball State debuts in the event and placed 32nd (25.39) and 41st (25.86), respectively. Smith would also place 17th in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.00.
Ball State's freshmen were not the only ones with personal-bests at the meet, as juniors Olivia Ashba (Ellettsville, Ind./Edgewood) and Jordan Timmons (Bargersville, Ind./Center Grove) also turned in career-best efforts in their respective events. Ashba placed 24th in the 400m dash in 58.72, while Timmons clocked in at 5:18.10 to place 29th in the mile run. Ashba also placed 29th in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.31.
The Cardinals' final top-20 effort came from another freshman, as Regan Lewis (Greenfield, Ind./Greenfield-Central) successfully cleared the high jump at 1.65m (5'-5”) in her second attempt at the height to place 12th.
The Ball State indoor track & field team returns to action next Friday (Jan. 22), when it opens competition in the two-day Gladstein Invitational hosted by Indiana.
