Track & Field Finishes Strong at Gladstein Invitational
January 23, 2016 | Track & Field
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - - The Ball State indoor track & field team closed out the month of January on a strong note, earning three top six finishes and tallying three season-best performances on the final day of the Gladstein Invitational hosted by Indiana.
“We were very pleased with our performances this weekend, especially on day two,” head coach Brian Etelman said. “This meet had a championship structure to it, and we responded well to competing with intent to make finals and put ourselves in contention for top finishes. Peyton Stewart continues to impress as she is consistently running below her PR coming into the season, and I expect her to put together a complete race soon and lay down a fast time. Michaela Hull and Dani Dahl are having great seasons and continue to get better each and every meet. We finished the meet with a solid effort in the 4x4 and look to carry all of our January momentum into the championship month of February.”
Senior Danielle Dahl (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea) and freshman Peyton Stewart (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) led the Cardinals in Saturday's action, both finishing fourth in their respective events. Dahl turned in a season-fast time of 2:15.91 in the 800m run, while Stewart finished just behind her career-best time in the 60m dash, crossing the finish line in 7.64.
Freshman Amber McGee (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrop) also turned in a strong finish in the 200m dash, winning her heat and placing sixth overall with a time of 25.47.
McGee and Dahl also combined with junior Olivia Ashba (Ellettsville, Ind./Edgewood) and sophomore Gabby Sims (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) to earn a Ball State season-best time of 3:53.65 in the 4x400m relay.
Competing in front of her hometown fans, senior Michaela Hull (Bloomington, Ind./South) turned in a season-best shot put of 13.62m to round out Ball State's competitors on the day.
The Cardinals turn their attention back to training over the next 12 days, before returning to competition at the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame Feb. 5-6.
