September 28, 2015 | Football
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Ball State football player Ben Ingle was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Co-Defensive Player of the Week Monday morning thanks to his standout performance in the Cardinals' near upset at No. 17 Northwestern this past weekend.
The senior linebacker posted a season-high 13 tackles at Northwestern. The 13 tackles is one shy of his career high. Ingle was part of a defense that forced three first half turnovers, which led to 10 Ball State points in the 24-19 loss. He added a game-high two tackles for loss and one pass break-up as well.
A native of West Harrison, Indiana, Ingle currently ranks second on the squad with 30 stops in 2015. His 245 career tackles is the most among active Ball State players.
Toledo quarterback Phillip Ely and defensive tackle Orion Jones, along with Northern Illinois kick returner Aregeros Turner were the other West Division award winners this week.
Ball State (2-2) hosts undefeated Toledo (3-0) at Scheumann Stadium this Saturday, Oct. 3 as part of Homecoming weekend. The Rockets currently sit just outside of the Associated Press top-25 poll thanks to victories over then No. 18 Arkansas and Big XII foe Iowa State. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
