Football Preseason Camp Update: Practice #2
August 07, 2015 | Football
MUNCIE, Ind. – Cool and damp conditions surrounded the Muncie area all day Thursday, which forced the Ball State football team to make a slight adjustment to its scheduled practice. Below are some news and notes from day four of preseason camp …
CHANGE OF PRACTICE VENUE: The Cardinals were originally scheduled to practice on the practice fields behind Scheumann Stadium, but the rainy conditions convinced head coach Pete Lembo to move the afternoon practice to the stadium field.
GREETINGS FROM BURRIS: Today was the first day of school for children attending the Burris School located on Ball State's campus. A few new members of the football team – OL Grant Williamson, TE Danny Pinter, TE Kyle Schrank and OL Andrew Poenitsch – were on hand to greet the kids and wish them a good year at school.
DAY TWO IN HELMETS: Due to the NCAA rules on acclimatization, the first two days of football practice have to be held in helmets only. The squad will add shoulder pads for the Friday and Saturday practice before suiting up in full pads for the first time on Sunday.
TEAM SITUATIONS: Thursday's football practice featured three extended sets of offense versus defense (11-on-11). In the second set, junior DB Tyree Holder intercepted a tipped pass and had a clear path for a touchdown before the play was whistled dead. Later in that session, sophomore QB Jack Milas connected with senior WR Jordan Williams on a deep pass play down the right sideline. Sophomore RB Darian Green broke through the line of scrimmage for a big gain in the final team set.
DEFENSE GETS FIRED UP: Freshman DB Marc Walton ended one of the pass drill periods with an interception returned for a touchdown. That play drew some hollers of appreciation from the defensive players on the sidelines.
ON TAP: The Cardinals have practice each of the next three days scheduled for 2:15 p.m., before returning to a night practice this coming Monday.
