#CardinalCamp15 Update: Slight Changes to Two-Deep
August 21, 2015 | Football
MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State football team returned to practice on a beautiful Thursday afternoon after a day off on Wednesday. With just two weeks remaining until the season opener against VMI, the Cardinals suited up in full pads for a spirited practice. Some more news and notes from camp are below …
UPDATED TWO-DEEP: Head coach Pete Lembo released an updated version of the two-deep after practice Thursday. A lot of positions and playing time are still up for grabs, especially on the defensive line and in the secondary.
QUOTING COACH PETE LEMBO: “We have seen some solid progress by several players so far this preseason, but there is still much work to be done on both an individual and unit level with two weeks remaining before the 2015 opener. Our depth chart is still evolving and competition will be ongoing over the next week or so. We also hope to get a couple key guys back that are healing up from short term injuries.”
STRONG GROUP OF BACKERS: Coach Lembo feels very good about the linebacker heading into the opener. There is a solid group in place with senior Ben Ingle, junior Zack Ryan and junior Aaron Taylor. Meanwhile, junior Sean Wiggins has cross-trained at both inside linebacker positions during camp and can easily mix/match depending on the situation. Look for Wiggins to see significant playing time as well this fall.
OTHER STANDOUTS: Senior Dylan Curry and junior Sam Brunner give the Cardinals a reliable one-two punch at the tight end position. Plenty of NFL scouts have stopped by practice this summer to take a look at Curry. Coach Lembo expects to see plenty of times with both tight ends on the field at the same time this year.
POSTER ACCOLADES: Ball State's 2015 football poster was recently ranked 16th best nationally among all other Division I football posters by PosterSwag.com. The only non-Power 5 school to rank higher than Ball State was Colorado State at No. 13. Ball State's poster can be picked up for free at Worthen Arena next to the ticket office or any Muncie or Yorktown McDonald's.
#CHIRPCHIRPFRIDAY: Starting this Friday, Ball State Athletics will host #ChirpChirpFriday. We encourage fans to share photos and posts via social media wearing Ball State gear and “chirping”! In addition, members of the Ball State marketing and fan engagement team will be out in the community in the lunch hour distributing car magnets featuring the Cardinals logo among other collateral. The marketing staff will be on hand at Marsh's on McGalliard this Friday from noon to 1 p.m.
