Baseball Announces Team Awards for 2015

Ball State baseball has announced its postseason team awards after a year which saw the Cardinals tally a 33-25 overall record and advance to the championship game of the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
Elbert Devarie, a senior who played six different positions for Ball State in 2015, was named the team's Most Valuable Player and the squad's Most Improved Player. Devarie started all 58 games (21 in LF, 13 at SS, 10 at 3B, 9 at 2B, 3 in CF, 2 in RF) and was second on the team with a .332 batting average. He tied for third on the team with 35 runs-batted-in and was fourth on the team with four home runs after hitting none in his first three seasons. Devarie, who played in only 28 contests with 11 starts as a junior, was second on the team with 12 doubles and 21 multiple-hit games plus tied for third for Ball State with eight multi-RBI games. Devarie set career marks in hits (78), doubles, triples (2), home runs and RBI this season.
Zach Plesac, a sophomore, was named the team's Pitcher of the Year after compiling a 5-5 overall record with a team-best 3.27 earned-run average.
Alex Call, a sophomore, was named the Offensive Player of the Year after leading the team with a .339 batting average and finishing second on the squad with 42 RBI. The Academic All-America Third Team selection was also named to the All-MAC Second Team.
Sean Kennedy, a sophomore, was named the Defensive Player of the Year. Kennedy started 47 games at third base and five contests at first base for the Cardinals. He managed a .943 fielding percentage with 40 putouts, 22 assists and only four errors on the season.
Jarett Rindfleisch, a sophomore catcher for the Cardinals, received the Dirtbag Award, while senior Jarrett James received Ball State's Spirit Award.
