Boykin Leads Track & Field At ?Last Chance? Classic

HILLSDALE, Mich. - - The Ball State outdoor track & field team opened a busy two day period with a pair of career-best efforts at the Hillsdale “Last Chance” Classic at Ken Herrick Outdoor Track in Hillsdale, Mich.
Leading the way at the Cardinals' first meet of the week was sophomore Natalia Boykin (Fort Wayne, Ind./Wayne) who placed third in the 400m hurdles with a career-fast effort of 1:02.61. The time currently has Boykin ranked 16th in the event on the Mid-American Conference outdoor performance list. The top 20 in each event qualify for the 2015 MAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships which will be held May 14-16 at Ball State's University Track at the Briner Sports Complex.
The Cardinals also saw several strong efforts in the 3000m steeplechase, with senior twin sisters Courtney Edon (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) and Caitlynn Edon (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) placing 3rd (11:14.00) and 5th (11:22.54), respectively. Sophomore Ericka Rinehart (Angola, Ind./Angola) also finished 11th in the event with a career-fast clocking of 11:42.12.
Members of the Ball State outdoor track & field team have one more chance to qualify for the league meet, when they run at Friday's Louisville Twilight meet. Action at Friday's event at Cardinal Park in Louisville, Ky., gets underway at 10 a.m. with the women's long jump and approximately 4:15 p.m. with the women's 100m hurdles prelims.
