MUNCIE, Ind. - - For her part in guiding the Ball State to the 2015 Mid-American Conference Softball Championship Title, senior outfielder Hanne Stuedemann (Mattawan, Mich./Mattawan) has been named the MAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Week for the week of May 4-11.
Stuedemann, who earns the honor for the first time in her career, was named the MAC Softball Championship Most Valuable Player after hitting .462 (6-for-13) over Ball State's four games in the event. In guiding the Cardinals to the third tournament title in program history, and first since 2010, Stuedemann also belted a pair of home runs, collected six RBI and score four runs, including what stood up to be the game-winning run versus Miami.
In the championship game, Stuedemann went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI, including a three-run home run in the fifth inning. In the Cardinals' Thursday win over Miami, Stuedemann was 2-for-3 with a walk, home run and a pair of runs scored. In Friday's victory over Central Michigan, she added a RBI double in the fourth inning of the 3-2 victory.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
The Ball State softball team opens play in the 2015 NCAA South Bend Regional Friday with a 5 p.m. game at No. 16 seed Notre Dame. The double elimination regional also features Kentucky and Northwestern.
