Lee and Miles Sign NLIs To Join Softball In 2016
April 23, 2015 | Softball
MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State softball program continued to bolster its infield depth with the signing of Madison Lee (Cerritos, Calif./Cerritos) and Aeshia Miles (Lawrenceville, Ga./Collins Hill) to National Letters of Intent, according to second-year head coach Tyra Perry.
Lee is a 5-foot-9 catcher from Cerritos High School in Cerritos, Calif., while Miles is a 5-foot-4 infielder from Collins Hill High School in Lawrenceville, Ga. The pair join Madeline Porter (Birmingham, Ala./Oak Mountain) and Rebecca Rodriguez (Tucson, Ariz./Sunnyside) who signed NLIs during the early signing period in November.
Lee, who is currently playing her senior season at Cerritos High School, is a three-time All-Suburban League selection, earning second team honors as a freshman before picking up first team accolades as a sophomore and junior. As a junior, Lee helped guide the Dons to a 20-4 overall record, including an 11-1 mark in conference play to win the Suburban League Championship.
“Madison will give us much needed depth behind the plate,” Perry said. “She is a very smart player who really understands the game. She is also a top hitter who can hit for both power and average.”
Over 23 games during her junior season, Lee recorded a .408 batting average with seven doubles, 17 runs scored and 19 RBI. The team's top defensive player as a freshman and coaches award winner as a sophomore, Lee was also named to the All-Area Second Team and Telegram Dream Team Second Team as a junior. Lee was also a three-year letterwinner in volleyball at Cerritos.
"I chose Ball State to be my home for the next four years because it offers outstanding academic programs with small class sizes,” Lee said. “The staff and students were very welcoming and immediately made me feel at home, even though I was across the country. I want to be a part of a strong, competitive softball program with a coaching staff who guides their team toward success athletically and academically.”
Miles finished her four-year playing career at Collins Hill this past fall by being named First Team All-County and First Team All-Region for the third time in her career. A two-time First Team All-State selection, Miles helped guide the Eagles to a 108-28 record over her career, including a 24-7 ledger this past fall. She also helped Collins Hill win a pair of Georgia State titles in 2011 (Class-AAAAA) and 2013 (Class-AAAAAA).
“Aeshia is a very special athlete,” Perry said. “She can play multiple positions and has a strong presence at the plate. We are very excited to have Aeshia at Ball State.”
As a senior, Miles batted .378 with six doubles, 18 runs scored and 28 RBI to help guide the Eagles to a regional championship. She was named the 2013 GADC Softball Player of the Year and the 2014 GADC Defensive Player of the Year.
“One reason I fell in love with Ball State was because of the campus environment and the school itself,” Miles said. “Walking on campus felt like home to me. Another reason I chose Ball State was because of all good things I was hearing about Coach Perry. All of her credentials as a softball coach were very good, and I am excited to see what Ball State has in store for me in the future."
