WBB Celebrates At End Of The Year Banquet
April 20, 2015 | Women's Basketball
MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State head women's basketball coach Brady Sallee announced the team's award winners for the 2014-15 season at the annual Women's Basketball Banquet, which was held Saturday at the Minnetrista Cultural Center.
The Cardinals ended the season with a 17-14 overall mark and a 13-5 Mid-American Conference ledger. Ball State became postseason eligible after clinching the MAC West Division title outright for the first time since 2008-09. The Cardinals earned a bye as the second seed in the MAC Tournament and advanced straight to the semifinals, where they lost to No. 6 seed Eastern Michigan 75-65.
Sallee, who completed his third season at Ball State, becomes the only head coach in program history to take the Cardinals to three straight WNIT. In addition, Sallee is only the second head coach in program history to have three consecutive winning seasons -- 17-16 (2012-13), 18-17 (2013-14) and 17-12 (2014-15). The last time it happened was from 2004-07 under former head coach Tracy Roller.
The Tom Hammond Memorial Media or Fan Appreciation Award was presented to Stephanie Cox. The Feeney Memorial Scholarship, which goes to a deserving women's basketball player who has demonstrated passion and commitment to basketball and academics, was awarded to Shelbie Justice. The Amy Lindsay Fuller Memorial Scholarship, awarded to a team member who is competitive, the ultimate teammate, loves the game of basketball and life, and is a person of great humor, was received by Jill Morrison. The Most Improved Player Award went to Renee Bennett and the Cardinal Award was giving to Nathalie Fontaine.
Both Fontaine and Morrison were recognized after earning MAC Player of the Week honors this season. Three Cardinals, including Fontaine and Morrison, were placed on the postseason award list. Fontaine earned First Team All-MAC honors for the second straight season while Morrison received Third Team All-MAC and Moriah Monaco was named to the MAC All-Freshman squad.
