Ball State fifth-year head football coach Pete Lembo will put the Cardinals through the annual Spring Game Saturday with a 3 p.m. kickoff scheduled at Scheumann Stadium.
The gates will open at 2 p.m. with gates 2 and 3 serving as the main entrance for the event, which is open to everyone and is free of charge. The ticket office will be open through halftime for season ticket renewals and new season ticket purchases. There will be tags on some of the best open seats for those interested in purchasing tickets for the 2015 campaign.
Fans in attendance will have the chance to win prizes and WLBC-Radio will be onsite with a live action broadcast from 2-4 p.m.. Free posters and game cards will be available while supplies last.
In addition to the game, there will be games and inflatables for kids in the north end of the stadium. At the conclusion of the game, fans are welcome to enter the game field for photos and autographs with Ball State players and coaches. The north end of the stadium will also feature Cardinal Cabanas, a new concept of hospitality areas inside the stadium. Parties interested in learning more about the tent community that will feature food and beverages this season, please contact Chris Ulm (csulm@bsu.edu) prior to Saturday to receive a wrist band for Saturday's game.
Lembo earlier announced football alumni Tom Broderick and Kurt Humes will serve as honorary coaches for this year's Spring Game.
“We have made an effort to introduce some new football program traditions since arriving four years ago,” Lembo said. “One of these is to honor two former players or coaches by having them on the sideline with the team for the Spring Game. Tom and Kurt represent a highly successful era of Ball State football in the mid to late 1970's. They are also great examples of football alumni who have stayed connected with the program and give back to the university. We are trying to build a culture of dedication, appreciation, entrepreneurship and philanthropy with our football student-athletes. Tom and Kurt are great role models for our current players to learn from and keep in touch with in the future.”
The format for this year's Spring Game is an offense vs. defense scrimmage with special teams drills in between quarters. On all fourth downs, the offense will either punt or kick a field goal. There will be five series per quarter, and a unique scoring system will be used.
DEFENSE: Drive Stop = 1 point
Three and Out = 3 points
Takeaway = 5 points
Touchdown = 6 points
PAT = 1 point
Safety = 2 points
OFFENSE: First Down = 1 point
