Football Unveils Immersive, Interactive App

Ball State football is the latest team to launch an immersive, interactive app showcasing team tradition, rosters, coaches' bios, alumni features and more. Accessible through the Ball State Athletics app, the football app was developed in collaboration with the Ball State Digital Publishing Studio in the Department of Journalism.
Fans can go behind the scenes and immerse themselves in game day activities with interactive photo galleries, engaging panoramas and powerful videos. Fans can also learn more about the team's legacy of excellence and find out where many of the alumni have landed.
The Ball State Athletics app was recently named Best of Festival in the Interactive Multimedia category at the International Festival of Media Arts, sponsored by the Broadcast Education Association. Football joins seven other teams in the app: men's basketball, men's and women's volleyball, baseball, gymnastics, softball and soccer.
Game highlights are added weekly during each team's season to keep readers up-to-date with their favorite players, teams and coaches.
Video galleries include contributions from Ball State Sports Link, the nation's only fully immersive sports media production program. The Digital Publishing Studio is led by Jennifer Palilonis, the George & Frances Ball Distinguished Professor of Multimedia Journalism.
“Our eventual goal is to have all of the teams represented in the app,” Palilonis said. “Collaborating with athletics was really a natural partnership. Sports has all kinds of great multimedia potential, and certainly the various sports teams provide all kinds of opportunities for fun and engaging experiences on the tablet.”
iPad and Android tablet users can download the Ball State Athletics app from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
